The brake lights on your Jeep Liberty illuminate when you hit the brake pedal and help prevent you from being rear ended by the cars behind you. Brake light bulbs grow dimmer over time and eventually burn out.
This video shows you how to change the brake lights on your Jeep Liberty. When you replace the brake light bulb on your Liberty, be careful not to touch the bulb directly with your fingers - the oil from your skin will cause the area that you touched to burn hotter than the rest of the bulb, which causes the bulb to burn out quicker.
If you are going to replace a bulb in your cluster, it is a good idea to replace all of them. Not only will the lights on your Liberty be brighter, you decrease the likelihood you will need to change any of the bulbs again in the near future. A burnt out bulb in the taillight cluster of your Liberty is an excuse for a police officer to pull you over. Check your bulbs frequently and change burnt bulbs promptly. Rotate your tires at least three times per year. If your battery has green or white cruddy deposits, it is probably not getting enough juice from and will likely wear out sooner.

Its fairly common for these to burn out sockets for the bulbs, and even often on both sides at the same time. If the tail lights were hot during the swap you may have broken the filiments. Bumping a bulb that is on or been on recently can cause the filiments to fail.

No, alternator and battery were wild goose chases. All you see is a multi-wire plug. The part, which looks like a circuit board, actually slides into where plug plugs in.Relay test

My husband was leaving our driveway when the light was noticed hanging, before it could fall out in traffic. This time the metal connectors in the brake light assembly have melted plastic around them, so it does not connect with the socket connectors and that means no brake lights.
Appears, based on the volume of youtube repair videos, that this is a common safety issue but when I looked at recalls and contacted Jeep, it is not an item of concern. When I turn my headlights on I blow the 10 amp fuse in the fuse box. The headlights light, but my tail lights do not work and the dashboard lights do not light.
How are the headlights connected to the tail lights and dashboard? Thanks in advance for your help. One of them may be shorted. If these are all good, you will have to start checking wiring. Instead, the headlamps are on their OWN circuit pulled through a 25 amp circuit breaker which comes from one of the five fuseable links near the starter relay.
Now, how do they interact with each other? Well, the headlamp switch is actually made up of about 4 switches in one making it a 4PST switch. So, when you pull the switch to the headlamp position, you are actually switching all these circuits on at the same time, but independantly of each other.
As for what is causing the fuse to blow, that could be one of many things. A good place to start as others mentioned is looking at all the lamps for any that may be shorting out internally or in the socket. Thank you to XJNick for the long version. I needed to hear the explanation on how the headlight switch lights 'em all up. I also needed to hear where to check in the taillight. Thankyou to JeeperJoe and TwistedCopper.
