Remove the bulbs hold them up to a light and see if the filimant is intact. So I was having the same exact problem on my 99 WJ Laredo. I looked for everything I could all damn day. I finally got to my last resort and just started pulling and checking fuses.

Sure enough, the F23 Brake switch fuse was blown. I replaced it, and everything works like a charm now. Another symptom of my issue was that one brake light was dimmer than the other, so check for that as well to double assure your situation. I couldn't figure out why I was having the same problem on my trailer rear lights so I knew the problem wasn't solely with the wiring at my rear tail lights. Check the 15 amp fuse for Park 6 fuse. I looked at the fuse in place at least 5 times and it didn't seem blown until I removed it and it was blown.

Replaced and night time running lights came on. Also, you will need to check the contact points on the top bulb, well all three but in this instance the top bulb. The metal contacts burn hot and oxidizes causing you to lose connection. I have in the past added a strip of aluminum foil to fix. Also I used electric grease to make contact. I had the same problem! Its on the driver side fuse box which is actually called pasanger fuse box! No, alternator and battery were wild goose chases. All you see is a multi-wire plug. The part, which looks like a circuit board, actually slides into where plug plugs in.

How are the headlights connected to the tail lights and dashboard? Thanks in advance for your help. One of them may be shorted. If these are all good, you will have to start checking wiring. Instead, the headlamps are on their OWN circuit pulled through a 25 amp circuit breaker which comes from one of the five fuseable links near the starter relay.

Now, how do they interact with each other? Well, the headlamp switch is actually made up of about 4 switches in one making it a 4PST switch. So, when you pull the switch to the headlamp position, you are actually switching all these circuits on at the same time, but independantly of each other.

As for what is causing the fuse to blow, that could be one of many things. A good place to start as others mentioned is looking at all the lamps for any that may be shorting out internally or in the socket. Thank you to XJNick for the long version. I'm wokring on it today and should have an answer tonight or tomorrow morning. Thanks again for the quick repsonse. I disconnected the wire harness connector that goes to the passenger's side tail light assembly thinking that I would eliminate all the corrosion issues at once.

I did. The fuse blew with nothing connected on the passenger's side. I checked the driver's side How do I check the wiring as it disappears into the body channel?
